Would working on a cruise ship help you get a visa to Ireland?

I have a turkish boyfriend. He has just started working on an Italian cruise ship around the mediterranean. For this job he had to get a visa which would allow him into the various european ports. He hopes this will help him secure an Irish visa in a few months. Does anyone know if having temporary seaman visa’s will hold any weight when applying for an Irish visa? I just don’t want him wasting his time if it won’t help. Appreciate any help on this, thanks!
